hello there!
i'm blogging again! i realised i haven't really been blogging about my work life. i guess some people must be thinking why i'm so tired out everyday that i don't even have the energy to come online to blog during weekdays. below is the description of my typical day. try to picture it!
in the morning, 8.30am. before i even reach my desk, i see RED RED wordings on my computer from far. they are the unforwarded mails (customers' requests, complains, enquiries, etc forwarded to me from colleagues of other departments) and i am supposed to forward every single one of them to various departments who deal with them. i'm supposed to memorise who do what so i can forward them correctly. if i forward the mails wrongly, in the worst case, to a b*t*h or a b**t**d (only we know who), that stupid idiot will complain to my officer directly and ta-dah! i'll kenna screwed. it's okay to get screwed, it's BAD to ruin the customer's impression of the bank when the process of attending to their requests doesn't flow. so every morning there will be at least 30 mails. thank you very much to those 24-hr departments like call centre, who forward mails to us after we knock off and let them accumulate till the next day. apart from mails, i have 2 fax machines to handle too. in the morning we don't receive too many faxes, so it's still quite alright.
after lunch at around 2, colleagues from other departments return from lunch too. so there they go, forwarding mails and faxing me again. i'll settle the emails first coz the red wordings are really too striking. as i handle the mails, i can hear the 2 fax machines screaming away for my attention while they push papers out from their stomachs. after i'm done with the mails to my horror there are 30 over to 40 faxes for me to read and record one by one. Some faxes even need me to deliver to the person in charge of dealing with that particular request personally coz they are too urgent (the people usually come to me to collect their faxes). so when i'm away, even more emails and faxes come in. after i finallyyyy complete the delivering and recording of faxes it's time for me to handle the mails again. i turn my head towards the monitor, and there, a whole page full of red wordings. shit. faster forward. i'll be alright if i'm 100% accurate in forwarding the mails, but sometimes i do forward wrongly. women can multi-task well, but not to the extent of avoiding the slightest misjudge. when i forward wrongly, nice people whom i forwarded to will get back to me and say "not for me." then i'll have to read the whole stupid email all over again and think think think who should do that request. sometimes, nobody wants to accept the mail and handle that request. like wth?! how am i supposed to know who on earth can help to assist? worst thing is i don't understand bank language. funny codes, funny terms, funny short-forms. sometimes people will say i don't read the content of the mail and just anyhow forward to the person i think can handle it. but the fact is that i do read, but whether i know what the mail is talking about is another thing. how much do you expect from an econs-dropper who shoo away all kinds of econs stuff even of the lowest level?
juggling between a computer and 2 fax machines aren't all that i need to do. i need to answer calls regarding the mails and faxes that i received and sent out. the worst thing is that the call comes when i'm in the middle of forwarding an urgent mail with 2 fax machines screaming non-stop, and i'm supposed to help this colleague check a fax that came in earlier the day. ring ring when the call comes, i say in 2 seconds, with the phone on my left hand, "good afternoon hsbc jade speaking" and within the same 2 seconds my right hand has got to grab the nearest pen and paper to jot down what the caller wants (paper doesn't include the incoming fax haha). after he/she tells me the account number i'll have to searrrrcchhh for the records of the stupid fax from the stuffs that i recorded. sometimes they want me to search for oldddd faxes and i'll have to dig out oldddd booklets from underneath the table. okay i think i shan't continue to describe my work lest it'll bore you out.
one phone, one computer, 2 fax machines. exercise for my brain, arms, limbs, ears and eyes. no exercise for my tummy. i'm growing fat fat fat from this sedentary lifestyle. i felt my tj skirt tighten so much when i wore it just now!
i thought life will be much better if this particular colleague is not around (peeps working with me will know who) but today she went on leave and i realised how bad life can be without her beside me helping me out. hahaha. but too bad she's going to leave this section which means i'll really have to do everything on my own soon. man.. she's just like my mother u know. teach me how to walk.. then run with me.. and now she going to leave me and i'll have to fly on my own. awww. i'll still miss her when she leaves, i believe.
however as time passes i've grown closer to the people in my office. people like jamie, JJ and daniel (the 3 guys at the fresh oyster contest).. farah, alvin and jia ling (from tj).. the 3 guys are always full of jokes and jamie likes to call me yu-jie coz i'm older than him haha. well, he turned 18 yesterday so we're now of the same age hehe. farah the beauty queen (tj nominated prom queen) comes over to chat with me when she's free or while she collects her faxes.. haha. and of coz rabia, my future captain (the only experienced staff around when irene leaves next month coz my section will be full of ignorant temp staffs like me) who always helps me out when i'm too busy handling everything on my own :) they're always feeding me with titbits and hence contributing to my huge tummy. THANKS! XD
haha.. enough about work. i'm dead beat now. will blog about 4th day in korea soon. man i'm not even halfway thru the korea adventure. guess the longer i drag the lesser interest the readers will have in the story :x and the lesser interest i'll have in blogging any further HAHA. but i will still continue! it's like the only happening thing that i can blog about these days!
